Robert Bonge could certainly have found better conditions for a successful human development. His childhood in the Franconian wasteland was marked by double standards, domestic violence and a lack of prospects, which made him more and more of a solitary outsider. When music burst into his life in 1988 in the form of an Iron Maiden cassette, the dreariness suddenly came to an end. Robert became an ardent fan of the British heavy metal band and soon spent all his free time listening to their songs. After a few weeks as a passive supporter, the pubescent youth wanted to emulate his idols and travel the world like a celebrated musician. With the purchase of his first guitar, the rock Olympus seemed to be within his grasp.
within reach, but as so often happens, things turned out differently. Quite differently...

About the author:

The author Klaus-Peter Gartenfeld lives in the twilight on the outskirts of some small German town and is an absolute enigma for most of his fellow people.

Growing up in the 80s in the Franconian wasteland, he was confronted with domestic violence and double standards at an early age, which made him a cynical observer whose sharpest sword is words. His heart beats for the quiet, the broken and the gentle, and the hero of his first novel, "A Life in the Second Row," is also an underdog without a real chance, but he always knows how to use it. In this sometimes cheerful and sometimes deeply desperate coming-of-age work, we get to know the anti-hero Robert Bonge, who maneuvers his way through a cold and unwelcoming world and knows that music is his strongest ally. In pointed and astute sentences, Gartenfeld sketches the picture of a likeable loser for whom the front is a long way away, but who never admits defeat and, thanks to his mischievous charm, always just about manages to turn things around.
